Susan Sarandon Bio

It was 1968. Democratic Convention and there was a casting demand for a movie with many characters for youngsters who disrupted the event. Joe (1970) was offered a role in New York by two recent Catholic University graduates. Chris Sarandon was not selected for the role, despite having previously studied acting. His wife Susan got a major role.That performance was of Susan Compton who was the daughter of ad executive Bill Compton (Dennis Patrick). Dad Bill, Susan's drug dealer boyfriend, is killed in the film. Joe (Peter Boyle), a bigot who works in an assembly line is next introduced to Joe (Sarandon). Janet, who becomes involved with Dr. Frank n Furter, plays Janet in The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). After over 15 years, Sarandon finally actively campaigned for Annie in Bull Durham (1988), transporting herself between Rome to Los Angeles at her expense. Sarandon said that "It was such a great script... it dispelled a lot of myths and challenged America's notion of success". "I went to the studio with Kevin Costner and shook hands with some of his sexy assistants prior to getting back on the plane. Tim Robbins, her Bull Durham (1988), supporting actor was her first love. He was father to two boys by 1992. This puts Sarandon in an awkward position. She left her home to perform the roles that were extremely challenging. This led to four Academy Award nominations in the 1990s and for the best actress in Dead Man Walking (1995). Louis Malle's Atlantic City (1980) was her first Academy Award nomination.
