Ronny Chieng

comedian. Chieng is currently a senior correspondent on The Daily Show on
Comedy Central and creator and star of the sitcom Ronny Chieng International
Student which debuted on ABC (Australia) and Comedy Central Asia in 2017.
Chieng was the son of an Malaysian Chinese family. He was born in Johor Bahru.
He was raised in Singapore as well as in the United States, living in
Manchester, New Hampshire from 1989 to 1994. Chieng was a performer with Trevor
Noah in 2013 at the comedy festival in Melbourne, Australia. A few years later
Chieng was selected to audition for the correspondent role on The Daily Show,
which Noah hosts. In July of 2016 Chieng was named one of the top 10 comics to
be watching by Variety In October 2016, Chieng appeared on The Daily Show to
offer his opinion on a Jesse Watters Fox News segment considered racist by
many. Chieng airs expletive-laden critique of the program on the network that
is conservative. Chieng also visited the city's Chinatown in which Watters were
mocking residents, and conducted interviews more respectfully in Mandarin as
well as Cantonese. The viral clip was covered in Slate and the Washington Post.
In his early years, Chieng was an Singapore Sea Scout. Although he has been
living in Australia for over 10 years, he still doesn't have permanent
residency or citizenship status in Australia. Chieng made a joke about being
cynophobic during 2018's Daily Show. But Chieng later admitted that he's
"100 100 percent confident about dogs" in an interview.
